Quality assurance for disparate teams

The Challenge
Biosis, a local ecological and cultural heritage advisory firm, had been using ArcGIS Field maps and Collector for ArcGIS for over a decade to conduct complex ecological surveys, mapping vegetation and habitat polygons. The limitations of this software when dealing with complex natural features and coincident boundaries created significant work in quality control and data cleansing post-collection. This included substantial time spent between the GIS team and field workers identifying gaps, removing overlaps, and smoothing areas to accurately represent the survey site.
The Solution
After spending considerable time searching for an out-of-the-box solution that integrated into ArcGIS, Biosis discovered Onneer and Sweet for ArcGIS. Onneer showcased its simple and intuitive web interface and ability to predefine topology rules to ensure the information was correct at point of entry.
In January 2025, the Onneer team worked with Biosis to deploy Sweet for ArcGIS into the client’s existing ArcGIS environment. Our team created the necessary templates for the collection applications and set up support channels to ensure the deployment was implemented successfully post engagement.
The Results
Leveraging Sweet for ArcGIS enabled a more efficient collection of detailed features across the Biosis field collection team. Sweet for ArcGIS provided freehand capture tools bound by pre-defined topology rules to quickly and effectively input complex data using a mobile device.
Benefits
- Enhanced data accuracy: Automated topology rules ensure precise data entry, reducing errors and quality control.
- Increased efficiency: Streamlined data capture processes to save time and resources.
- User-friendly interface: Intuitive tools to simplify complex ecological data collection.
- Reduced post-processing: Minimised need for data cleanup and adjustments after fieldwork.
- Improved collaboration: Seamless communication between field staff and GIS teams.
